A consultative meeting was held on the Development of a national environmental policy

The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) held a meeting at the ‎Serena Hotel in Kabul to discuss the formulation of the National Environmental ‎Policy. The deputies and directors of relevant government agencies, university ‎professors, and representatives of international organizations attended the ‎meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Director of Professional ‎Affairs of the National Environmental Protection Agency Eng. Ezatullah Sidiqi ‎generally spoke about the need and importance of the National Environmental ‎Protection Policy.
Mr. Sidiqi said: "Although there are environmental laws, regulations and various ‎procedures existing for the conduct of environmental affairs, there are some ‎problems such as Functional overlap between relevant government agencies, ‎the ambiguity of some issues, climate change, air pollution, unplanned urban ‎development, and other factors; therefore, there is an urgent need to formulate a ‎national environmental policy. To involve all government agencies in the ‎environmental protection sector.
He said that with the formulation of this policy, priorities will be separated and the ‎government will be able to strengthen the environment in all sectors and achieve ‎the goals of sustainable development.
During the meeting, informative presentations presented by the experts of the ‎‎organization with the content of the National Environmental Protection Policy ‎‎Development and answered the questions of the participants.
It is to remember that the formulation of the National Environmental Policy has ‎been ‎started and will be completed by the end of September this year.‎‎
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Director of Professional Affairs asked the ‎participants to share their views, criticisms, and suggestions with the National ‎Environmental Protection Agency in order to enrich the policy.
It should be noted that all related activities of the formulation of the National ‎Environmental Policy are carried out with the support of the United Nations ‎Development Program (UNDP), (UNEP), and the European Union.
