National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) with the technical cooperation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched a two-day training program entitled "Obtaining Green Climate Fund Accreditation for Direct Access Entities" with the participation of representatives of relevant government and private sector ministries and departments.
Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqi, Technical Deputy of the National Environmental Protection Agency, referring to the challenges posed by climate change at the national, regional and global levels, said: "One of these problems is the access to global financial mechanisms for climate change."
He said “The Green Climate Fund is one of the largest global financial mechanisms for climate change, supporting developing countries to be resilient to the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The fund also provides $1 million a year,” "Fortunately, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has so far been able to raise $ 1.3 million through the Green Climate Fund during its preparation to empower developing countries to access the fund.”.
Subsequently, Ruhollah Amin, Head of Climate Change of the National ‎Environmental Protection Agency, stated that the purpose of this program is to ‎increase the capacity of relevant ministries and departments of government and ‎the private sector in line with the process of obtaining Green Climate Fund ‎accreditation for the institution with direct access. And added, that “Creating an institution with ‎direct access to the Green Climate Fund can increase the country's ownership in ‎the process of implementing climate change projects and programs across the ‎country."
The experts delivered presentations on the process of obtaining the accreditation ‎of the Green Climate Fund, environmental and social protection, financial ‎standards, and gender policy of this fund. And after performing group work at the ‎end of the program, they awarded certificates to the participants.
