The National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) held a three-day consultation workshop at the Band-e-Amir Conference Hall to analyze the National Assigned Partnership (NDC) document, with technical and financial support from the Aga Khan Housing Corporation. Which finally ended today (June 3). About 50 members from various government departments and foreign organizations attended the consultative workshop.
Rohullah Amin, Director of Climate Change, addressed at the opening of the workshop about the importance of the NDC document and added: We're reaching the end of our review of this document. Fortunately, steps have been taken, and the document will be created in cooperation with National priorities and in line with the Paris Agreement.
"According to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change member nations' report, the global average temperature has risen to two degrees Celsius, which should be reduced to 1.5 degrees Celsius," Amin noted. Afghanistan is also a member to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to which it is obligated to submit a report every five years.
On December 3, 2020, a series of consultative sessions to review the National Contribution Index were began. Consultative workshops have been held in four regions of the country so far, including Kabul. The paper will be written and forwarded to the National Climate Change Committee and the International Climate Change Convention when the President approves it, considering the participants' views, suggestions, and national priorities in the field of climate change.
|If all residents, especially respected specialists and academic institutions, actively work with the National Environmental Protection Agency to give the correct, complete, and detailed designs to international financial mechanisms, Hundreds of millions of dollars will definitely be spent each year on reforestation, protection of diversity and wildlife, and climate change adaptation.
Participants recommendations, and comments from ARUP partners in responsibility of technical preparation and review of the document were listened at the workshop, which concluded with replies.
