The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Project to Discuss Climate Change Challenges in the Amu River Region through Sustainable Energy Management and Ecosystems was headed by Pashtoon Atif, Director General of the (NEPA), and attended by Deputy Director Engineer Ezatullah Siddiqui, European union representatives, the Aga Khan Organization, and Wildlife Conservation (WCS).
Mr. Atif began the meeting by discussing the National Environmental Protection Agency's duties and responsibilities in highlighting the challenges posed by climate change and its management in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has very low greenhouse gas emissions and does not play a major role in climate change; however, it is extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
"The cooperation of relevant departments in implementing this project can be effective in combating climate change and protecting ecosystems in the target areas," said the Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency, who added that "the cooperation of relevant departments in implementing this project can be effective in combating climate change and protecting ecosystems in the target areas."
The officials of the Agha Khan organzation and the Wildlife Conservation Institute gave extensive information on the project activities and progress to the participants, as well as answering their questions, according to the agenda.
After discussion, it was determined that the implementing agency would share all reports, project financial reports, and data with the necessary departments. The second meeting will be held in early August 2021 to discuss the project's future plans.
It's important to note that this project was begun in 2018 with the help of stakeholders and is sponsored by the European Union. The initiative will be conducted in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, and Bamyan by the Agha Khan Institute for Wildlife Conservation (WCS).
