Emphasis on the role of the media in protecting the environment and combating air pollution

The National Environmental Protection Agency held a consultative meeting with senior national and international media officials to cover actions and activities, strengthen relations, cooperate and work together on environmental issues, especially air pollution.
Schah Zaman Maiwandi, Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency, Engineer Ezatullah Sediqi, Deputy Director of Technical affairs, Mohammad Yousef Hamidian, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration, Maulana Farid, Representative of the Office of the First Vice President, and senior media executives and officials attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Schah Zaman Maiwandi, Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency, thanked the media for their presence and spoke about the functions, challenges and role of the agency in air pollution, especially in Kabul.
Mr. Maiwandi added: "Air pollution has become a serious global challenge and Afghanistan is no exception; According to studies by the World Health Organization, more than 7 million people die each year from air pollution.
While emphasizing the role of the media in combating environmental challenges, Mr. Maiwandi called on all media officials to prioritize environmental issues, including the fight against air pollution. The Director General of the National Environmental Protection Agency added that what is related to the National Environmental Protection Agency will be honestly presented to the nation through the media, and the media is expected to reciprocate the growth of public awareness. Creating a positive discourse in the field of environment and pursuing the responsibilities of other departments should also cooperate seriously.
Then, Engineer Ezatullah Sidiiqi, Deputy Director of Technicall Affairs, spoke about presenting statistics and air quality monitoring in Kabul city and said: The National Environmental Protection Agency collects data from different parts of Kabul city every day with its own devices and these figures show Air pollution has increased in Kabul in the past two months.
Mr. Sediqi added: Lack of regulation of public transport, lack of technical inspection checks of vehicles, asphalting of roads, roads and cream houses, lack of electricity in Kabul, problem of production and industrial factories, standardization and lack of control over gas prices and in Its unavailability is one of the causes of air pollution in Kabul.
Also in this meeting, Kazem Homayoun, the head of environmental protection of Kabul province, gave information about the measures taken in Kabul city and said: this department, in cooperation with other agencies, has been able to monitor 4078 activities, including 588 high-rise buildings.
Later, Maulana Farid, a representative of the Office of the First Vice President and a member of the six-and-a-half-morning meetings, expressed his support for the agency's efforts to combat air pollution. And force; Six and a half sessions deal seriously with violators.
At the end of the meeting with media officials, they presented their views, suggestions and advice on the environment and air pollution, saying that the agency should find more executive powers, increase advertising and information, and we as media officials assure we will work together to reduce air pollution.
